Your body is a perfect machine and has developed various strategies on dealing with the stresses of everyday life. When food becomes a scarcity and consumption drops the bodies natural reaction is to enter starvation mode. When your body enters this stage it tries to hold on to every calorie of fat, protein and carbohydrate that enters your body and the rate of digestion drastically lowers.
In order to combat the scarcity of food your body holds on to as much fat and nutrients as it can, since it doesn’t know the next time you will be able to supply it with nutrients. Now by looking at this reaction from the body it is very obvious of why skipping meals can be a disaster to any ones weight loss program.
Let’s say your running late for work and you skip a major meal like breakfast or lunch, your body will quickly realize that it is low on nutrients and slow your metabolism drastically halting the fat burning process and weight loss. On your next meal your metabolism will be running so slow that it will take even longer to digest the food and depending on what you eat majority of it will be deposited as fat.
As an alternative to skipping a meal make sure you get something in your stomach like a meal replacement shake, protein bar or even a peace of fruit at the very least. This will ensure that there is something in your stomach to keep the normal digestion pattern and metabolism functioning correctly. So to sum it up while on a weight loss program or supplement no matter what even if you are not hungry, never skip a meal as it will bring your weight loss progress to a screeching halt.
